The purpose of this programme is to provide the learners with the knowledge, skills and competence to pursue a career in Decorative Painting Skills.

Requirements

Age Requirement: Statutory School leaving age
Aptitude: Applicants must demonstrate an appreciation of and an aptitude for art and design in conjunction with good visual awareness and a flair for proportion and form. *Good colour vision is essential. Submission of portfolio or samples of work is ess
Education:QQI Level 4 or equivalent.
Previous Experience: Background in the Painting and Decorating trade or art and or design an advantage but not essential.

Further Details

Learners will be able to: 1. Induction 2. Briefly outline the history of and influences on decorative and faux painting. 3. Work safely and effectively using tools, equipment and materials. 4. Prepare surfaces and mix glazes for a range of decorative techniques. 5. Design, manufacture, apply and maintain stencils for a range of projects. 6. Design and pinstripe a selection of borders and associated graphic elements. 7. Paint a selection of faux marbles and semi-precious stones as well as designs in Pietre Dura. 8. Paint a selection of faux Wood Graining effects and also design and render a series of projects in Marquetry. 9. Use colour successfully in painting skills. 10. Plan and design a series of Decorative and Faux Painting projects. 11. Execute a series of Trompe l’oeil projects. 12. Execute a series of Decorative floor projects. 13. Apply Distressing and Antiquing effects to previously painted work. 14. Complete projects in Gilding and Glasswork.
